NOTES FOR SPONSORS

The AGM is held in May and all members are welcome to attend.

GETSuk operates a policy of transparency of all its dealings. All money donated is accounted for and its use fully monitored.

Only Gambian staff are employed and paid wages. All other helpers and volunteers do so at their own expense.

GETSuk directly sponsors individual students and runs or administers 3 closely monitored Nursery Schools

Standing Order Reference

In order to make identification of Standing Order payments easier, please put your surname and the name of your student (if you are sponsoring more than one) as the reference.

Gift Aid

If you are a UK tax payer and choose to gift aid, the tax you have paid on any money sent to us is returned to us by the UK Government.

The tax you have paid in the year must be at least equal to the tax we will reclaim – 28p/£

You can cancel this declaration at any time by notifying treasurer@getsuk.org

If you pay tax at a higher rate, you can claim further tax relief in your self assessment form.

Gift Aid will be used to pay the salaries of the teachers at our Nursery schools at Bakoteh and Essau.

Sponsorship

Sponsorship includes full GETSuk membership of £10 and this amount will be deducted from your account each year.

A further 10% of your donation is deducted to contribute towards the cost of the monitoring staff in Gambia.

Your money will be used to pay:

Book Bills

3 x Uniforms per annum

1 pair Shoes per annum

1 school bag per school

In some circumstances, students may have additional costs. For instance, students living in rural areas may have transport costs or may require a bicycle to get to school. Some schools may have a feeding programme which provides a hot midday meal and for secondary students there will be examination fees in their final year. Your money will not be used for these costs unless specifically agreed with you. You may need to increase your donation to cover them. Please contact the sponsorship secretary who will obtain details of specific costs for your student, if applicable.

Any money unused in a student’s account at the end of each school year will be carried forward.

We will make every effort not to increase the annual amount you have agreed to donate. It may be necessary when students move from Primary to Secondary education to re-assess the donation.

Accounting

GETSuk has a balance sheet for every student and enters each amount paid by the sponsor

All payments made on the student’s behalf in Gambia are recorded.

We aim to send accounts to the sponsor at least once each year.

Monitoring and Feedback

Every student is visited at the start of each term. The GETSuk website will include a summary of each student’s visits and progress, as well as a photograph.
