It was a joy to arrive
at school in the morning to be greeted by 60/70 smiling faces, all wanting
to hold at least one of my fingers! (I still have 10 by the way).
I got
involved in as many activities as I could, cheering on the football team
against a ‘rival’ school, and although we did not win, I had to laugh
when I heard Famara, the Head Teacher, shout ‘Attack…attack’
encouraging Bakoteh 5 year olds to tackle the 8 year olds on the other
side, but in spite of loosing, it was obvious we had talent on our side so
…move over Rooney!!

I took part in singing
and teaching lots of action songs, teaching English, and even sharing a
morning-break rice pudding brought into school by one of the teachers!

What stood out
for me on the whole trip was the genuine warmth and generosity of all
the people I met in the
Gambia, and I won’t ever forget that. Now back in England, I am already
thinking of fundraising ideas to support the school, learning new songs
for next time and of how soon I can go back! !
