Tourists
visiting The Gambia can arrange to visit our schools and spend
a couple of days of their holiday helping in a classroom - this often
leads to a longer stay in the future and provides invaluable support.
Can
you find room in your luggage for something useful for our schools?
Exercise books, pens and pencils are relatively cheap in The Gambia and
can be bought there (helping their economy rather than ours!). Plastic
bottle tops, coloured pegs, toy bricks and any other counting aids, or
any educational toys which your children have grown out of would be very
welcome. Simple Big Books to read and show to the class would be great,
but look at them first to see if they are suitable for Gambian children,
a visit to the circus, or a trip on a train would mean something to UK
children but not be part of a Gambian child's life.
We
need other kinds of help too - painting walls, clearing the site,
establishing a garden, anything
you think you could do!
